Donkey Therapy
Donkey therapy, or equine-assisted therapy with donkeys, is a form of animal-assisted therapy where individuals engage in structured activities with donkeys to address various physical and mental health challenges. This includes grooming, leading, and bonding activities. The calm and non-judgmental nature of donkeys creates a supportive environment that promotes emotional well-being, builds trust, and enhances social skills. The therapy is particularly
effective for managing stress, anxiety, and trauma, providing a unique avenue for personal growth through the healing power of the human-animal bond. Our little herd provides joy and laughter. Those silly donks are good for the soul. My neighbors often stop by with carrots or apples for a quick visit with our long-eared friends. The stress relief they provide is priceless. We currently have 4 donkeys - Johnny, June, Cash, and Taco.
Boxer Rescue
We got involved in Boxer Rescue because we loved our dog, Cooper, so much. After he passed, we had a period of deep mourning. He was literally my spirit animal with the energy level of a bulldog and the hilarious spirit of a boxer.
When we were ready to welcome another animal into our family, we knew Boxer Rescue was the only option for us. There are just too many animals in need of a good home to justify buying one. I started following Atlanta Boxer Rescue on Facebook and then I saw our opportunity to foster a senior bulldog/boxer mix.
Fostering is like peeling the layers off of an onion. The first layer is dried up and crunchy, torn and scarred. You have no idea what your specific dog has been through. They need a lot of patience and a routine they can count on. After a few days out of a loud scary shelter and in a home, you start to see that first layer come off. As the foster gets the medical care, love, and proper nutrition they deserve then you get to watch their personalities show up!
Fostering saves lives! There are many ways you can get involved and it’s such rewarding work. Feel free to connect with me if fostering is something you are considering. Be sure to check out Atlanta Boxer Rescue if you are in the Georgia area.
